About the Program

Graduate Certificate in AI Applications
from Northeastern University

AI is changing how decisions get made in nearly every industry, and the professionals who can put it to work are the ones who understand both the technology and the work it is applied to. The Online Graduate Certificate in AI Applications from Northeastern University is built for exactly that: people who need real AI fluency without a computer science background.

Three interdisciplinary core courses ground every student in applied AI, responsible AI, and human-centered design. Your fourth course is where you specialize: business strategy through the D'Amore-McKim School of Business, health sciences through Bouvé College of Health Sciences, or tech careers through the College of Professional Studies, which is the route into the Online M.P.S. in Applied AI. No programming experience required.

Four courses. Sixteen credits. As little as four months. Taught by faculty who research and practice in the fields they teach, through case work and applied projects rather than theory alone.

This certificate stacks directly into the Northeastern Online MBA and the Online M.P.S. in Applied AI. So if you decide to continue, you arrive at your master's program with a credential already in hand and coursework already complete.

Why a Certificate

Four Months to Real AI
Credentials.

AI fluency is moving from a specialty to a baseline expectation, and most professionals do not have four years to wait. This certificate gets you to a Northeastern University credential in as little as four months: four courses, sixteen credits, $5,250 total. No programming experience required.

A Northeastern credential in four months.

While a master's takes 16 to 32 months, this certificate puts a Northeastern University credential on your resumé in as little as four. You walk away with an official Northeastern University certificate and transcript notation, the same documentation the institution issues for all graduate credentials. Same faculty. Same standard.

Tuition aligned with employer reimbursement.

The $5,250 total isn't an accident. It matches the IRS Section 127 limit for tax-free employer-provided education assistance, meaning many students complete the certificate without paying anything out of pocket. Employer reimbursement toolkit →

Every credit carries forward.

All 16 credits stack into the Online MBA or the Online M.P.S. in Applied AI as long as you earn a 3.0 cumulative GPA. If you decide to continue, you arrive at your master's degree with a third to nearly half of it already complete and a Northeastern credential already in hand.

Career Outcomes

Roles, Salaries, and Job Growth in Applied AI.

The people organizations need most right now are not only the ones building AI systems. They are the ones who can decide where AI belongs, judge what it is worth, and answer for how it is used. This certificate prepares graduates for roles in strategy, operations, program leadership, and health administration, where AI decisions are increasingly part of the job. Common titles include Management Analyst, AI Program Manager, Operations Manager, Product Manager, Clinical Informatics Specialist, and Health Services Manager, across financial services, healthcare, consulting, government, and enterprise technology.

AI Applications for Tech Careers

College of Professional Studies

This is the track for people who want to stack the certificate into the Online M.P.S. in Applied AI. It is also the track to take if you want hands-on technical skills alongside the applied AI core, whether or not you continue to a degree.

In place of the single 4-credit Business or Health Sciences elective, you take two shorter courses that together carry the same 4 credits: AAI 5025 Python (3 credits) and AAI 6983 Special Research Topics in AI (1 credit). The pair builds the foundational programming and quantitative background the M.P.S. expects.

Taking these two courses is what meets the prerequisites for the standard M.P.S. in Applied AI. Without them, your credits stack into the M.P.S. in Applied AI Connect instead, which is designed for students entering without that technical foundation.
