Meet Lindsay
Hi, I am going into my second-year student in the Online MBA program at Northeastern University. As an administrator at Northeastern's College of Engineering, and I feel very fortunate to be able to work toward my MBA with my employee tuition benefit. Finally, I am pursuing a focus area in Innovation and Entrepreneurship and plan to graduate Summer 2025.
A Day in the Life
This is my first time experiencing an online graduate program, and I’ve found that it works very well. I can go largely at my own pace (between assignment deadlines) and while in my coziest cozy socks. With discussion boards and group projects, there’s still the interactive element that adds that extra value to the educational experience. Since my peers are coming from all sorts of professional backgrounds, it helps bring the course material to life when they share how some of the content relates to their life experiences.
I tend to devote one weekend day to schoolwork, plus a varying schedule of mornings and evenings throughout the week. I’ve usually taken two classes at a time (sometimes just one). As someone who enjoys learning and who might choose reading nonfiction as a leisure activity anyway, it tends not to feel like too much of a chore. Of course, it depends on the course… but more often than not, I’ve actually found the coursework interesting. So this experience has been more than just a means to an end. I’ve found value in the Faculty Connect sessions I’ve gone to, even though I usually don’t attend, as part of my work-life-balance time-budgeting. I’ve occasionally taken advantage of TA office hours, especially in courses that were harder for me.
Strategies that Work
Some strategies that have worked well for me:
- Lots of notetaking. Then with a Ctrl-F, I can search for target words as I’m working on assignments.
- Reviewing the professors’ online content before doing the assigned readings for that module. This helps me know what parts of the readings are likely considered most important.
- Keeping all my work in folders and subfolders, so I can easily access anything later.
Overall, I’ve been very impressed with the program. Words I would use to describe it include: well organized, useful, flexible, balanced, and supportive. I would strongly recommend it to any prospective students.
