Engineering Management
Lead at the intersection of technology and business.
100% online, fully asynchronous, built for working professionals. The same Northeastern University College of Engineering credential. No commute, no prior tech background required.
Online MS in Engineering Management
from Northeastern University
The professionals who move technology forward aren't always the ones who built it. They're the ones who can lead the people, projects, and budgets that turn engineering into outcomes. The Online Master of Science in Engineering Management (MSEM) from Northeastern University's College of Engineering was built for exactly that kind of professional: someone ready to lead at the intersection of technology, business, and leadership.
The curriculum blends engineering principles with management practice. You'll build depth in project management, engineering economics, operations research, and applied statistics, then specialize through electives in management, analytics, or software development. Not theory about what you'll eventually apply. Skills you can use at work on Wednesday that you learned on Tuesday. No prior tech background required. Engineers and non-technical professionals alike are welcome.
The Fast App pathway gets you from interested to enrolled in 2 hours. Because the obstacle to a graduate degree shouldn't be paperwork.
When you graduate, your diploma reads: Northeastern University, College of Engineering, Master of Science in Engineering Management. It won't say "online." You'll cross the same stage in Boston, earn the same credential, and carry the same institutional recognition as every Northeastern engineer before you.

Where MSEM graduates go next.
Engineering doesn't run on technical skill alone — it runs on the people who can lead the projects, budgets, and teams that carry it to the finish line. The professionals who bridge engineering and management are the ones organizations rely on to turn ideas into delivered results. Engineering Management graduates move into roles at exactly that intersection: Engineering Project Manager, Operations Manager, Product Development Director, and Systems Analyst — across technology, consulting, and manufacturing, and in the public agencies that run large-scale technical programs.

Skills Employers Are Hiring For
Right Now.
The Master of Science in Engineering Management builds exactly the skills employers hire engineering leaders for — from project management and engineering economics to operations research, applied statistics, and the leadership to put them to work across technology, consulting, and manufacturing.
Project & Program Management
Plan, schedule, and deliver complex engineering projects — managing scope, budget, risk, and teams across the full project life cycle.
Engineering Economics & Decision-Making
Evaluate alternatives with present worth, rate of return, and benefit/cost analysis — and make sound decisions under risk and uncertainty.
Operations Research & Optimization
Model industrial operations with linear programming, network flows, and optimization methods that drive efficient, data-backed decisions.
Applied Probability & Statistics
Quantify uncertainty and test hypotheses — distributions, estimation, confidence intervals, and analysis of variance applied to engineering problems.
Systems Analysis & Trade-Off Evaluation
Break down complex systems and weigh competing design and resource trade-offs — engineering solutions that balance performance, cost, and constraints.
Leadership & Organizational Strategy
Lead cross-functional teams and influence strategy — translating fluently between engineering, operations, and the business.
Online MSEM Curriculum:
Four Core Courses + Four Electives.
The MSEM is 32 credits — eight courses. You'll complete four core courses (16 credits) that build the foundation in project management, engineering economics, probability, and operations research, then choose four electives (16 credits) to specialize. If you enroll through the Fast App, you'll begin with the two pathway courses marked below — and every credit counts toward your degree from day one.
Faculty Who Work in the
Industry They Teach.
"Modern engineered systems are increasingly connected — the social and organizational side of how systems are designed and used is equally important as the technical."
The Online MSEM is taught by Northeastern University College of Engineering faculty — the same researchers and practitioners who teach the on-ground program. Your instructors aren't observing their fields. They're working in them.
